Wenxin Tang
As  Condensed  Matter  Materials  and Physics  experimentalist,  Prof.  Tang  is highly  recognized  for  his  original experimental contributions  in  surface  physics,  low dimensional  spin  dynamics  field  and  low energy  electron microscopy field, respectively in the world. He is focusing on solving key problems by inventing & developing novel  methods  &  Instruments  aiming for  original  research  and  important high-tech  applications.  He discovered a new Body-Centered-Cubic Ni nanostructure by Molecular Beam Epitaxy at Fudan University in China. His  breakthrough  in  discovery  of  the first  surface  magnon  dispersion  in monolayer  Fe  system  provided  great opportunity for  scientists  to  understand  the  origin of  spin  interaction  in  the  low  dimensional systems  at  Max Planck  Institution  in Germany. The  surface  magnon  energy  is almost  10  times  less  at  the  surface Brillouin  zone boundary than the theoretical prediction since 1930. Envisaged the importance of III-V semiconductor in the future spintronics,  he  developed  a  unique  and first  III-V  surface  microscopy  with  his colleagues  at  Monash University in Australia, a novel technique to probe and manipulate surface dynamics for III-V quantum structures in  real  space  and  real-time.   His  works  have  been  published  many times  on  prestigious  journal  such  as  Physics Review Letters and Science.   Recently, he first proposed and designed an ultrafast aberration-corrected spin polarized low energy electron microscopy (TR-AC-SPLEEM) with total supported funding US$4.8M. This setup will provide 10 ps temporal resolution and 3 nm spatial resolution with monolayer spin contrast. The success of the project will achieve an ultrafast high resolution surface microscopy and foster discoveries in the ultrafast surface imaging field. During development of ultrafast surface electron microscopy, Prof. Tang envisioned ultrafast electron  beam  melting  (UEBM) for  ultra  high  precision  3D  additive manufacture  in  2013.  which  will revolutionize our machining process. With his collaborators Dr. Weishi Wan, we designed the system which could couple  with AC-LEEM  with  UEB  to achieve  nm  ultrafast  electron  focus.  This novel  design  will  open  new applications in high precision machining, particular in nano/microstructure fabrication. He also served as Associated Editor  for Australian Institute  of  Physics  (AIP)  (2011-2013), Editorial  Committee  for  Function  Material journal (2013-2017),  NSFC  Young  Scholar  Funding, Key  Research  Funding  and  National  Key Instrumental  Funding reviewer in China.
