On December 14, 2024, the \u201cJourney \u00a0to the seed\u2014the Dazu Rock Carvings\u00a0and Their Guardians” officially concluded at the Ricardo Rojas Cultural Center in Buenos Aires,\u00a0Argentina. This exhibition has been actively promoted by multiple social organizations in Chongqing, including Chongqing Huayan Foundation for Culture and Education, Chongqing Dimensions Art Center, Mil Gotas Bookstore and Miaogao art space etc. The exhibition was co-curated by Argentine curators Fabi\u00e1n Lebenglik and Cecilia Ivanchevich. Over the course of more than a month, it presented Argentine audiences with the “Journey \u00a0to the seed” series of photographic works by Chongqing-based artist Dai Xiaobing, themed around the culture of the Dazu Rock Carvings.<\/section>\n

The exhibition gained\u00a0coverages\u00a0and wonderful reviews from All Main newspapers, magazines, radio, TV\u00a0as well as social medias in Argentina. During the exhibition period, the number of offline visitors exceeded 1,800. Many Argentine viewers were amazed by the exquisite artistry of the Dazu Rock Carvings and deeply moved by the dedication of the local people in preserving this cultural heritage.<\/section>\n

Curators Fabi\u00e1n Lebenglik and Cecilia Ivanchevich noted that the “Journey to the seed” series resonated strongly with Argentine audiences because, through Dai Xiaobing’s works, they were able to glimpse the lives\u00a0of ordinary people\u00a0behind the millennia-old legacy of the Dazu Rock Carvings. The years of traces on\u00a0the carvings as well as\u00a0the lives of those who left traces\u00a0together form the essence of\u00a0the work. For many Argentine viewers, this exhibition was their first opportunity to gain such a vivid image\u00a0of Chinese culture,\u00a0not of\u00a0its industries and technologies, but because its\u00a0invaluable spiritual strength and millennia-old cultural heritage.<\/section>\n

The ancient region of Ba Shu, located\u00a0between Chengdu and Chongqing in southwest China is dotted with towns and villages for over\u00a0300 kilometers. It is also known as the ‘Land of Abundance\u2019. Ba Shu stretches from Puzhou in\u00a0the east (an area known for its grottoes and carvings, including Anyue and Dazu) to Meishan\u00a0in the west (the home of many renowned literati in history). There, the scroll of physical life\u00a0and metaphysics belief is painted as one for thousands of years. Among them, the Dazu Rock\u00a0Carvings, which were inscribed on the ‘World Heritage List’ by UNESCO in 1999, represent the\u00a0pinnacle of Chinese stone carving art.
