Cities are containers of memories, and their development is also the beginning of forgetting. Demolished signs, iron fences and warning lines, as well as the annoying sounds of construction and dust flying are everywhere in our lives, tall buildings are being constructed day and night without people realizing it. But urban development seems to be localized, what happens in the corners we don’t notice?<\/span><\/section>\n
<\/section>\n
The artist was impressed by Chongqing’s labyrinthine spatial composition when he explored the city. Buildings, vehicles, stairs and vegetation are squeezed into each other as if in a never-ending process of proliferation. The dilapidated, deserted and uninvited corners seem to be compressed into the gaps of the city’s grotesque and bizarre landscape. Certain landscapes, spaces, and stories are being erased at an alarming rate along with the development of the city, becoming unclaimed \u201clost objects\u201d. The artist utilizes the paintbrush to capture this tension between growth and disappearance – skyscrapers grow like a forest, while the wildness of nature, traces of history, and individual memories quietly recede amidst the concrete and steel.<\/span><\/section>\n
<\/section>\n
Lost Paintings\u00a0is not only a visual record of the cityscape, but also an observational experiment on \u201cdisappearance\u201d. The comic gives depth to this observation with a light-hearted narrative – when the city is expanding out of control, can art become a way to resist oblivion? Can the forgotten places created by the painter and the apprentice awaken our concern for disappearance? This is both a documentation of endangered spaces and a reflection on the meaning of art’s existence in contemporary society.<\/span><\/section>\n

Under the complex and changing social background of the world, what young artists are facing is not only the drastic change of the physical space of the city, but also a generalized spiritual dilemma: when the reality accelerates and collapses, can the creation still carry the meaning? What this exhibition tries to present is precisely the artistic action under this contradiction – it may not be able to prevent the disappearance, but at least, it makes the \u201cforgetting\u201d itself visible.<\/span><\/section>\n

\u672c\u6b21\u5c55\u89bd\u300a\u756b\u5883\u5c0b\u8e64\u300b\u662f\u6211\u5728\u91cd\u6176\u5341\u65b9\u85dd\u8853\u4e2d\u5fc3\u99d0\u7559\u671f\u9593\u7684\u85dd\u8853\u6210\u679c\u3002\u6211\u6f2b\u904a\u5728\u9019\u5ea7\u57ce\u5e02\u4e2d\uff0c\u7814\u7a76\u4e26\u8a18\u9304\u4e0b\u9019\u5ea7\u57ce\u5e02\u7684\u69cb\u6210\u65b9\u5f0f\u2014\u2014\u65bc\u6469\u5929\u6a13\u7fa4\u8207\u91ce\u751f\u53e2\u6797\u4e4b\u9593\u3002\u9019\u7a2e\u5806\u758a\u7f8e\u5b78\u7d66\u4e88\u4e86\u6211\u9748\u611f\uff0c\u4fc3\u4f7f\u6211\u5275\u4f5c\u4e86\u4e00\u500b\u95dc\u65bc\u6b64\u985e\u7d50\u69cb\u7684\u57ce\u5e02\u7684\u865b\u69cb\u6545\u4e8b\u3002\u5728\u9019\u500b\u5c55\u5ef3\u88cf\uff0c\u60a8\u5c07\u770b\u5230\u6211\u5275\u4f5c\u7684\u7cfb\u5217\u7d20\u63cf\u3001\u6f2b\u756b\u53ca\u7e6a\u756b\u4f5c\u54c1\u3002<\/span><\/section>\n
\u5c55\u89bd\u7531\u5169\u90e8\u5206\u69cb\u6210\uff1a\u7b2c\u4e00\u90e8\u5206\u5448\u73fe\u7684\u662f\u5169\u5e45\u6211\u5728\u7b2c\u4e00\u5468\u62b5\u9054\u91cd\u6176\u6642\u5275\u4f5c\u7684\u7d20\u63cf\u63d2\u756b\u3002\u6211\u8a66\u5716\u6355\u6349\u9019\u5ea7\u57ce\u5e02\u7d66\u6211\u7684\u7b2c\u4e00\u5370\u8c61\u2014\u2014\u50cf\u662f\u88ab\u6df9\u6c92\u5728\u9ad8\u6a13\u5927\u5ec8\u3001\u6469\u6258\u8eca\u6d41\u3001\u968e\u68af\u8207\u81ea\u7136\u5143\u7d20\u4e4b\u4e2d\u3002\u4e00\u7a2e\u6c38\u7121\u6b62\u5883\u76f4\u81f3\u6642\u9593\u76e1\u982d\u7684\u5806\u758a\u611f\u9996\u5148\u6d6e\u73fe\u5728\u6211\u7684\u8166\u6d77\u4e2d\uff0c\u4e26\u4fc3\u4f7f\u6211\u8a18\u9304\u4e86\u4e0b\u4f86\u3002<\/span><\/section>\n

\u7b2c\u4e8c\u90e8\u5206\u5247\u901a\u904e\u6f2b\u756b\u7684\u5f62\u5f0f\u5c55\u958b\u6558\u4e8b\u3002\u5728\u9019\u500b\u865b\u69cb\u6545\u4e8b\u4e2d\uff0c\u6025\u901f\u64f4\u5f35\u7684\u57ce\u5e02\u6b63\u4ee5\u9a5a\u4eba\u7684\u901f\u5ea6\u541e\u566c\u8457\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u67d0\u4e9b\u89d2\u843d\uff0c\u4f7f\u5176\u5fb9\u5e95\u6e6e\u6ec5\u65bc\u8a18\u61b6\u4e4b\u4e2d\u3002\u6211\u5011\u5c07\u8ddf\u96a8\u4e00\u4f4d\u756b\u5bb6\u53ca\u5176\u5b78\u5f92\u7a7f\u68ad\u65bc\u9019\u5ea7\u57ce\u5e02\uff0c\u4ed6\u5011\u5c07\u7528\u756b\u7b46\u8a18\u9304\u9019\u4e9b\u5373\u5c07\u6d88\u901d\u7684\u89d2\u843d\u3002\u901a\u904e\u9019\u90e8\u6f2b\u756b\u6211\u60f3\u63a2\u8a0e\u7684\u662f\uff1a\u6b63\u5728\u589c\u843d\u7684\u793e\u6703\u8207\u85dd\u8853\u7684\u95dc\u4fc2\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u85dd\u8853\u5bb6\u5011\uff0c\u5c24\u5176\u662f\u50cf\u6211\u9019\u6a23\u7684\u5e74\u8f15\u5275\u4f5c\u8005\uff0c\u5728\u9762\u5c0d\u5168\u7403\u6027\u5931\u63a7\u5c40\u9762\u6642\u7684\u8907\u96dc\u5fc3\u5883\u3002<\/span><\/section>\n

The exhibition\u00a0Lost Paintings\u00a0is the result of residency at DAC in Chongqing. I roamed around the city, drawing and studying how the urban space was arranged. Between skyscrapers bouquet and wild forest, I got inspired by this accumulation aesthetic so I wrote a story about a city like this. So I worked on the making of drawings, a comic and painting that you will be able to see in this room.\u00a0<\/span><\/section>\n

This exhibition is divided in two big parts. The first one is about two drawings. I did in the first week in Chongqing. I wanted to work around the first impression that the city had on me. I felt like drowning between buildings scooters stairs in nature. A never-ending accumulation until the end of time is the first thing that came into my mind and I wanted to transcribe here.<\/span><\/section>\n

The second part of the exhibition is about comic and paintings that you will be able to see in the comic. For this project, I wrote a story around the city that is expanding so quickly and so much that some parts of this town are literally disappearing into oblivion. We follow the story of a painter and their apprentice around the city in order to paint those forgotten places disappearing. I want to talk about falling society\u2019s relationship with art and about the feeling of artists and especially young artists like me face in front of out of control situation happening around the world.<\/span><\/section>\n

Rose Martin\u2019<\/span>s work gathers comics, edition, painting and sculpture. Currently working on a thesis about \u00ab how we transform houses and cities into mazes \u00bb, their projects develop the feeling of being lost in labyrinthine architectures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u901a\u904e\u4e00\u7a2e\u8a69\u610f\u7684\u3001\u626d\u66f2\u5982\u8ff7\u5bae\u822c\u7684\u6558\u4e8b\u65b9\u5f0f\uff0c\u4ed6<\/span>\u63a2\u7d22\u4e86\u6642\u9593\u7684\u6d41\u52d5\u6027\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u65e5\u5e38\u5efa\u7bc9\u4e2d\u90a3\u4e9b\u904e\u6e21\u7a7a\u9593\u7684\u5947\u7570\u611f\u53d7\u3002<\/span><\/p>\n

Through a poetic, twisting and maze-like storytelling, they explore the fluidity of time and the disturbing aspects of liminal spaces in everyday architecture.<\/p>\n

Born in Poitiers, France, Rose studied drawing, painting and photography during 2 years in the art school of Mulhouse (HEAR) then 3 years in Angoul\u00eame where they graduated in 2024 for their comic, edition and storytelling works.<\/p>\n

For this project I worked on the notion of falling through infinity, time and space. As an unknown traveler, we visit this out of time structures, falling constantly more and more into a disrupted reality where even perceptive is falling apart. Sometimes, cryptic and poetic words give us details that seem to be incoherent and lose us even more. In this spacial place, the only thing we hope for is to not meet the Minotaur.<\/span><\/section>\n

For this story, I wanted to talk about a demonic house that loses us into its entrails. In this place, we\u2019re here with only one information: a room has gone missing. Through this sculpture, I experienced the playful aspect of mazes, kind of like those we find at the back of cereal boxes or in magazines. But, like always in my works, there is no end to it. We play a ball trapped in the labyrinth but we can\u2019t get out. In here, we are no lost traveler trying to find the exit, but instead we embody the Minotaur itself, wandering in the maze\u2019s hallways.<\/span><\/section>\n
