But this\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>knowing<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>comes more from a place of confidence that says,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Anyway, everything in Japan pretty much came from China.<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>When I flipped through Ito<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s artbook, my mouth was saying\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>Sugoi, sugoi,<\/span>\u201d\u00a0<\/span>but in my heart, I wasn<\/span>\u2019<\/span>t really impressed<\/span>\u2014<\/span>I even doubted whether Japanese people could actually read a title like\u00a0<\/span>\u300c\u7834\u58a8\u5c71\u6c34\u30fb\u96ea\u821f\u7b49\u694a\u300d<\/span>, let alone the inscriptions. But the paintings in front of me had no words. Ito said she removed all the text by tracing.<\/span><\/section>\n

I know nothing about Chinese literati painting.<\/span>Well, that<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s not entirely true<\/span>\u2014<\/span>I sort of do.
