The Ox Warehouse and Chongqing Dimensions Art Centre signed a memorandum of cooperation in 2020 in a bid to establish a cross-field, cross-discipline, cross-media and multi-regional platform for diversified cultural exchanges. An artist exchange program could facilitate a dialogue about art between the two places as well as the cultural development, and thus, the \u201c2+0 \/ 1+1 Artist-in-Residence Program” has been created. The Ox Warehouse organizes the artist-in-residence program every year, and the exchange artists this time are Wang Yan Xin from Lanzhou and Wong Weng Io from Macao.<\/p>\n

\u982d\u6234Gopro\u96a8\u610f\u7684\u5728\u6fb3\u9580\u904a\u8d70\u516b\u5c0f\u6642\uff0c\u7576\u9014\u4e2d\u9047\u5230\u6b7b\u4ea1\u7684\u751f\u547d\u9ad4\uff0c\u4fbf\u505c\u6b65\u7528\u7b46\u5728\u65c1\u7d00\u9304\u7576\u6642\u7684\u6642\u9593\u3002<\/p>\n

I stop and use a pen to mark the time on the spot.<\/p>\n

Wang Yan Xin has been at the Ox Warehouse since early April for artistic creation that lasts for about a month. His solo exhibition \u201cPost-truth: Fool others as well as oneself\u201d kicked off at Post-Ox Warehouse Experimental Site on April 30. A rebellious spirit, rejection of customary artistic standards, cynicism, a pursuit of meaninglessness, coincidences and others \u2014 these all are related to Wang Yan Xin’s life, in which he expresses himself and keeps exploring his own boundaries via performance art. With the body as the major medium of his art form, Wang\u2019s works mostly focus on observing the surrounding environment and the relevant feelings, and ponder the connection with the history of his whereabouts. His works are mostly presented in the format of interactive behaviours, and carried out through close interaction with the audiences from beginning to end. Reality and sarcasm are closely intertwined \u2014 the audiences think they are joining a game and laugh at the ironies, but then they are caught off guard when they have to face the reality\u2026\u00a0\u00a0The roughness and sarcastic look of Wang, who is from the northwest of China, most of the time add a sense of intrusiveness and pressure to his live performance. The pains felt in his performance will be exaggerated, mixed with sarcasm and reality, and force the audiences voluntarily or involuntarily to be immersed in the scenes and think.<\/p>\n

\u5728\u5176\u7c97\u7377\u7684\u5916\u8868\u4e0b\u96b1\u85cf\u8457\u5c0d\u65bc\u300c\u865b\u5f31\u300d\u3001\u300c\u7121\u529b\u300d\u548c\u300c\u5047\u5f37\u300d\u7b49\u8af8\u591a\u5167\u5728\u7684\u53cd\u601d\uff0c\u5728\u9019\u6b21\u5c55\u89bd\u4e2d\uff0c\u901a\u904e\u4ed6\u81ea\u8eab\u554f\u984c\u7684\u8a0e\u8ad6\u548c\u63a2\u7d22\uff0c\u4ee5\u53ca\u5c0d\u6642\u4ee3\u80cc\u666f\u7684\u601d\u8003\u8207\u5448\u73fe\uff0c\u4e5f\u9010\u6f38\u68b3\u7406\u51fa\u4ed6\u500b\u4eba\u4f5c\u54c1\u8108\u7d61\u7684\u5fae\u5999\u8b8a\u5316\uff0c\u611f\u53d7\u7834\u788e\uff0c\u5275\u50b7\u548c\u907a\u5931\uff0c\u500b\u9ad4\u8a18\u61b6\u8207\u96c6\u9ad4\u8a18\u61b6\u5728\u6642\u4ee3\u8b8a\u9077\u4e2d\u6e38\u96e2\u3001\u4ee5\u53ca\u5c0d\u65bc\u6d88\u901d\u8207\u96b1\u85cf\u7684\u63a2\u5c0b\u3002\u88ab\u907a\u5fd8\u7684\u771f\u76f8\u548c\u6210\u70ba\u8b0a\u8a00\u7684\u6b77\u53f2\uff0c\u5728\u53ad\u60e1\u8b0a\u8a00\u7684\u8a98\u56e0\u4e0b\u7522\u751f\u5c0d\u6b77\u53f2\u53ca\u8b0a\u8a00\u7684\u601d\u8003\u3002\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u4eba\u7fa4\u53ea\u9078\u64c7\u76f8\u4fe1\u7b26\u5408\u4ed6\u5011\u77e5\u8b58\u9ad4\u7cfb\u504f\u597d\u7684\u4fe1\u606f\uff0c\u8f3f\u8ad6\u5c0d\u300c\u771f\u76f8\u300d\u7684\u614b\u5ea6\u5df2\u767c\u751f\u4e86\u8f49\u8b8a\u3002\u5f8c\u771f\u76f8\u7684\u6642\u4ee3\u80cc\u666f\u4e0b\uff0c\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u4e8b\u4ef6\u53ea\u610f\u5473\u8457\u4e0d\u540c\u7684\u6558\u4e8b\u7248\u672c\uff0c\u300c\u60c5\u7dd2\u7684\u5f71\u97ff\u529b\u8d85\u8d8a\u4e8b\u5be6\u300d\uff0c\u8b0a\u8a00\u53ef\u4ee5\u5de7\u8faf\u70ba\u300c\u53e6\u4e00\u7a2e\u89c0\u9ede\u300d\u6216\u300c\u610f\u898b\u300d\uff0c\u56e0\u70ba\u300c\u4e00\u5207\u90fd\u662f\u76f8\u5c0d\u7684\u300d\u3001\u300c\u6bcf\u500b\u4eba\u90fd\u6709\u81ea\u5df1\u7684\u771f\u7406\u300d\u3002\u6240\u8b02\u7684\u5f8c\u771f\u76f8\u4e26\u975e\u6307\u771f\u76f8\u7684\u7f3a\u5e2d\uff0c\u800c\u662f\u771f\u76f8\u88ab\u8a8d\u77e5\u7684\u904e\u7a0b\u66f4\u70ba\u5d0e\u5d87\uff0c\u4eba\u5011\u80fd\u63a5\u53d7\u8b0a\u8a00\u6216\u865b\u5047\u4fe1\u606f\uff0c\u800c\u5c0d\u5f85\u300c\u771f\u76f8\u300d\u7684\u614b\u5ea6\u4e5f\u66f4\u70ba\u5e73\u6de1\u3002<\/p>\n

Weakness, vulnerability, pretense and other internal reflections are masked by his tough\u00a0and rough appearance. This exhibition, through the discussion and exploration of his own problems as well as reflecting on and presenting the contemporary world, has also sorted out gradually the subtle changes in the context of his works \u2014 fragmented, traumatized and lost; the dissociation of individual and collective memories in the changing times; and the exploration of disappearance and concealment. The forgotten truth and the history made up of lies give rise to reflections on history and lies owing to the aversion to lying. Different groups of people only opt for the information that fits their knowledge systems and preferences, and the attitude of the public towards the “truth” has changed. In the era of post-truth, different events only represent different interpretations. As \u201cemotions are more influential than facts\u201d, lies can be interpreted as \u201canother point of view\u201d or \u201can opinion\u201d because \u201ceverything is relative\u201d and \u201ceveryone has their own truth\u201d. The so-called post-truth does not mean the absence of truth but the bumpy path for the awareness of truth. People can accept lies or false information, and the \u201ctruth\u201d is less significant for them.<\/p>\n

Observing and acknowledging his own weakness, vulnerability and pretense, Wang has started to think what\u00a0makes him feel fear and powerless. He has started to rebuild the \u201ctruth\u201d he believes, allowing the body to be the major subject is also an experiment for the project. From the body in the public space to the abstract space and then the personal space, the discussions of topics and meanings arising from different spaces are also different. When a free body is bound by social disciplines, art could help break through the disciplines and create new boundaries. The focus of his works shifts to personal space, living space, growth, memories and body. Through all these internal contemplations, he tries to analyze his body, mental state and motive.<\/p>\n
