The Annual Project for “Community Curators”
社区策展是构建一个具有强烈仪式感的场域，使观众在这种气氛当中完成意识的转化，通过这种氛围的营造，社区居民在这个场域中能得到熏陶，然后实现人的完善和发展。社区策展的基础是社区居民带着对于社区的想象力，提出社区改变或者社区行动，而艺术家带着美学的概念，在社区策展中发挥出引领性的作用。Community curation is the construction of a space with a strong sense of ritual, where the atmosphere allows the audience to achieve a transformation of their mindset. Through this edification, the community residents can improve themselves as human beings. The foundation of community curation is that community residents, with their imagination of the community, propose changes or carry out actions, while artists, with their aesthetic theories, play the role as the guide.
策展人是艺术活动当中担任构思、组织、管理的专业人员，社区策展人把权利给到社区居民，让居民能够在社区做自己的策展，讲好社区故事，通过不同的媒介进行广泛的传播。社区策展人应该是社会工作者、艺术家、公众共同策划参与社区的公共艺术项目的人。Curators are professionals who conceptualize, organize, and manage art events. Community curators give power to community residents to make their own curatorial work in the community, tell their stories, and disseminate them through different media. Community curators should be social workers, artists, and members of the public who work together to plan and participate in public art projects in the community.

2019年9-11月开展的首届“坊间·社区公共艺术节”基于社区公共艺术和社区营造的工作方向开展了4场专题研究，其中一场围绕“社区策展人”开展的专题中，我们邀请了策展人李杰作为工作坊导师，招募到68位参与者，获得了各方的积极反馈。

During the first “Gathering – Community Public Art Festival”, which took place from September to November in 2019, we conducted four thematic studies related to the topics of community public art and community creation. In one study around “Community Curators”, we invited curator Li Jie as the workshop instructor, recruited 68 participants, and received positive feedback from all sides.
但是我们也认识到，“艺术节”的形式有其局限性。短时间、高密度的内容集聚虽然容易达成爆发性社会效应，实现多元协作和广泛讨论，但是对于常态化的、需要长期持续推进的工作来说，不够深入。于是萌生了开展常态化研究的想法。However, we also recognize the limitations of the “art festival” format. Although it is easy to produce an explosive social effect and achieve multifaceted collaboration and extensive discussion, short-term and high-density content aggregation is not in-depth enough for normalized work that requires continuous progress. So the idea of conducting normalized research was born.
至今年夏天，我们很幸运的找到了一个合适的，可供开展常态化研究实践的地方，桐梓林社区。并不是因其独特性，而是因其与众多城市社区一致的普遍性。这里既有高档洋房、林荫步道、高端消费场所，也有老破旧小区、杂乱但充满生命力的市场。这里见证了改革开放以来成都的城市变迁过程。正是因为这种普遍性，使得我们面对的社区问题，有更开阔的讨论空间，更适合开展这长达一年的研究实践计划。
This summer, we were fortunate enough to find a suitable place to conduct normalized research practice, the Tongzilin community.We choose Tongzilin not because of its uniqueness, but because of its commonality with many other urban communities. There are not only expensive commodity houses, tree-lined walkways, high-end consumer places, but also old and dilapidated neighborhoods, messy but vibrant markets. It has witnessed the changes in the city of Chengdu since the reform and opening up. This commonality gives us more room to discuss the community issues we are facing, and makes Tongzilin a suitable place for carrying out this year-long project.
本计划是在艺术节系统之外，面对日常、以常态化研究实践为主的“土壤改良”行动。将会从“空间”、“关系”、“故事”、“审美”四个方向持续展开深度的讨论。自2020年9月正式启动，至2021年9月结束，持续一年，包含四场主题工作坊和一场文献展。在此过程中，由艺术家、学者和社工群体组成三方协作的联合研究团队，加上居民群体，最终形成四方协作对话机制。This project is an action of “soil improvement” that focuses on regular research practices in daily life, outside of the scope of art festivals. There will be in-depth discussions in four directions: space, relationships, stories, and aesthetics. The project launches officially in September 2020, and will end in September 2021. It will last for one year, including four themed workshops and a literature exhibition. In this process, there will be a tripartite collaborative research team, composed of artists, scholars, and social workers. Together with the local residents, a quadripartite collaborative dialogue mechanism will eventually emerge.
本次研究，我们邀请了刘向晖、曹明浩、芬雷、李一凡4位艺术家带来四场工作坊，每一场都将持续1-2个月，基于社区发展中的问题，提供具有创造性的认知和实践方法；我们邀请了郭虹、辛旭、张意、张原4位学者作为学术观察员，伴随式的为工作坊提供相应的学术支持和跨界研讨；另外，我们还邀请了杨玲、陈联滨、何子元、曾鸣4位在桐梓林社区深耕数年的社工，为本计划的顺利开展提供有效的地方信息、居民链接和统筹协调支持。相信这12位行动者的加入能保证这持续一年的计划真正的扎根现实、面对日常，言之有物。For this project, we invited four artists, Liu Xianghui, Cao Minghao, Fen Lei and Li Yifan, to lead four workshops, each of which will last 1-2 months and provide novel ways of thinking and practice based on issues in community development. We have invited four scholars，Guo hong，Xin xu，Zhang Yi，Zhang Yuan，as academic observers to join the workshops to provide academic support and interdisciplinary discussions. In addition, we also invited four social workers （Yang Ling，Chen Lianbin，He Ziyuan，Zeng Ming）who have been working in the Tongzilin community for several years to provide useful local information, residents’ linkage and overall coordination. We believe that these 12 participants will ensure that this year-long project is concrete, and truly addresses real issues in our communities.
另外，本次工作坊是主要面向社区居民们的开放招募，所有参与进来的居民会成为本计划的核心推动者。In addition, these workshops are open mainly for community residents, and all participating residents will become the core promoters of this project.

桐梓林社区东起人民南路四段，西至新光路，南起桐梓林南路，北至二环路南三段，面积0.6平方公里，服务物管小区16个和单位宿舍3个，双流国际机场高速主城区出入口、天府国际机场18号线、地铁1号线、二环路联动整个区域，交通便利。辖区人口超过2万人，其中外籍人士近2000人，来自美、英、德、日等三十多个国家和地区，多数为国外驻成都机构中高层管理人员、外资企业高端人才，是近20年来成都市外籍人士居住最为集中的社区。
Tongzilin Community starts from 4th Section of Renmin Road South in the east, to Xinguang Road in the west, from Tongzilin Road South in the south, to the Southern 3rd section of the 2nd Ring Road, covering an area of 0.6 square kilometers, serving 16 property management communities and three unit dormitories. It has easy access to Shuangliu International Airport, Tianfu International Airport Line 18, Metro Line 1, and the 2nd Ring Road. The area has a population of over 20,000, including nearly 2,000 foreigners from more than 30 countries and regions, making it one of the most concentrated expat communities in Chengdu.

Deepdesign Studio/UDG Chongqing, Chief Architect.He was formerly a design partner in Atelier FCJZ. He is concerned with urban and rural settlements, history and reality. He tries to study the hidden knowledge spectrum based on the material and bodily context of the present, to reconstruct or construct space from the real situation of each individual, revealing or projecting connections. His spatial work is mainly focused on architectural design and urban and rural planning, while the related work is mainly on outdoor environmental art practice.
她的实践是以研究为基础，注重过程和多种合作。致力于生态物质和人类社会新关系的发掘，着重于未被重新认识的流域和现实秩序以外的水系角度，探究生态历史的流变与未来的再想象。作品涉及乡村消失的研究，南方务工者的联结，特定水系的新叙述和作为公共装置的水系避难所，并以不同的视觉叙事形成万物之间的连结动力。
Her practice is based on research and focuses on processes and multiple ways of collaboration. She make efforts to explore new social relationships between ecological materials and human society; She particularly look at the river basins which have not been re-recognized and the water systems which have been outside the real orders, to explore the changes of ecology history and the ways of re-imagining the future. She works include researching about the disappearing countryside, the connection of migrant workers in the South, the new narratives of specific water systems and the public installations of water refuge. She works create the power of connection between all things through different visual narratives.

Artist, documentary film director.One of the main sponsors of art projects The Society of An Individual, The Sixth Ring Road Has One More Ring than the Fifth Ring Road, and The Youths from Other Provinces. The documentaries he filmed won awards at multiple major international film festivals. Among others, the documentary Before the Flood won Wolfgang Prize of the 55th Berlin International Film Festival International Forum of New Cinema and was present at art activities of great importance. Solo exhibition Microscopic Narration held at Iberia Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing in 2008, solo exhibition Illusion Resistance – Ritual of Everyday Life held at GCA Art Museum, Chongqing in 2016, and solo exhibition The Heretical Light held at Guangdong Times Museum in 2019 jointly and fully convey his idea of art that to create new aesthetics with the transcendence of reality itself under the status quo of China.
